Battle of Sydney's Beaches

Domain have an interesting article on the strength of Sydney's northern and eastern beaches property market.

Last week Sue Williams, a Domain Reporter, wrote a lengthy article on what is being billed as the battle of the beaches – the frenzied fight to buy a home at either Sydney’s northern or eastern beaches, two of the hottest areas in the lead-up to spring.

On the weekend before spring both regions dominated the auction markets with a 91.9 per cent and an 89.7 per cent clearance rate respectively, compared with Sydney’s overall 80.1 per cent rate, although rates were not as high last weekend.

Price growth has also been strong: 6.3 per cent over the past year for houses on the northern beaches on Domain Group figures, to a median house price of $1,625,000. In the east, growth has been powering along at 12.2 per cent for houses, to $2.1 million. Apartments have gone up 2.3 and 2.4 per cent, to $791,000 and $860,000 respectively.
