Living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, we can often take the joys of our beach lifestyle for granted.

However, that’s not the case for everyone.

Did you know that there is a world first facility in Collaroy that has been developed and supported by locals which brings those who are living with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) to enjoy our beautiful part of the world.

Sargood on Collaroy is a specialist resort where people who are living with a Spinal Cord Injury can enjoy time together with their friends and families, connect with expert nurses and physios, join in confidence building sports and recreation activities, learn and develop new skills and importantly meet others with shared life experiences.

The team at Doyle Spillane are proud to share the vision of Sargood Foundation to encourage people living with SCI to live a vibrant and meaningful life and we have been supporters of Sargood since the beginning.

We’d like to share with you Ellen’s story about her stay at Sargood. Ellen and her partner Steph who is her Carer, were able to experience their very first stay at Sargood on Collaroy, thanks to the support of the generous community of Northern Beaches donors. They enjoyed a beautiful weekend together – a break from the stresses and strains of adapting to life as a recent paraplegic.

During her stay, Ellen felt that she was able to somewhat heal her mind. Being at Sargood she felt so well cared for and was able to feel a little more resilient, which is so important as her relationship with her body has of course changed beyond all recognition – she felt that being here lightened her approach to where she has found herself.

Ellen’s main goal for her stay was achieved - a dip in the ocean. She was capably and gently assisted by the Recreation Team who made her dream of having a swim come true and even helped her into a special adaptive wetsuit.

“I totally enjoyed floating around in the pool, it really was the highlight for me.”
